I don't know what ever inspired me to work with these colors and this theme, but I just got started and it was so much fun I kept going!

There's a spot on the inside cover for a memo or title...and antique sheet music and vintage storybook illustrations on the first page

Vintage wrapping paper and a pumpkin tag

Vintage movie schedule and trading stamps

More book illustrations and vintage paper ephemera...

and wrapping paper scraps...

vintage jeweled trim...

It's 8 pages, decorated on each side, to make 16 pages to fill up and finish!

The cover is decorated with a vintage doily, button, and antique black silk bow, plus an illustration from an antique storybook!

I've just listed it in my handmade Etsy shop, Twice Shy Restored.

FANTASTIC!!! Love the book and all the fun autumn colors. I think my favorite page is the little boy peeking from under the table leg.

What a lovely book - very pretty in all its autumness! I am afraid that I am a very messy journal keeper, I am sure to spoil this little beauty if I were to keep a journal in it. By the way, who did you pick to choose weekword this week?

I love this book ! ...the seasonal colors, ephemera, everything!

And I especially love my special little gift!!!....and cute card and warm, wonderful note. My friend Sevan was helping me get ready for the show when I received it. My eyes filled with tears, and my heart filled with love. Thank you my artist sister friend.You are so dear.:)

Laurie, This is a fabulous journal! Did you do the spiral binding too? I've always wanted to learn that method though I think it takes certain tools to accomplish this. Your artwork is such an inspiration to me! Love the autumn colors and all of your creative uses of ephemera! LOVE IT!!!

A new year

I hope this year will be much easier than the last one, for everyone I know.  I also want to say I'm sorry for not updating this blog since the end of October!  The end of the year was perhaps the worst of it; I'm not able to fake it very well, so instead of coming here and trying to be cheerful, I just don't come here! That's not to say we didn't have lovely holidays despite it all; we did! Here in Colorado January is off to a cold start; even though we get to see the sun on some of the chillier days, it's not possible to hang around outdoors. A frozen fountain I became ill shortly after the new year and continue to struggle with stuff (nothing real serious); I am looking forward to things being back to normal, so I can feel WELL and go back to the gym and have energy to spare! I don't think I posted about it here, but we did get a new kitten to keep Art company after he pined and paced over Paul Simon.  We thought we were getting a little boy...

Hello, world!  Welcome to my blog!   My name is Laurie, and I call my blog "Indulge Your Shelf" because I often post about the pretty things that catch my eye at antique stores, thrift shops, estate sales, street fairs, flea markets and the like -- and end up on my shelf at home, or in my Etsy shop by the same name !  My maternal grandmother had a great love for pretty old things, and it was she who taught me to rummage for treasures in thrift shops, to collect what I love, to sew, and to embroider.  And, that's another thing I write about often on my blog: creating!
