Snips of a Snippet Roll

Image
I love to create these miniature fabric collages -- snippet rolls!  They look beautiful cascading off from the top of a vase, or can be pinned open to a curtain or swag. My favorite thing is to just roll it open and gaze at all of the details!  I never tire of having something like this in my hands! Now in my Etsy shop here !

An Altered Tin

Image
I'm trying very purposefully to make time for "making"!  This week I exchanged an altered tin in a Vintage Crafters Cafe swap; I had been working on the tin since after Christmas, here and there, very slowly.  It was satisfying to have a project to work on, even while being so busy with so many other things! I started with an empty Altoids tin.  I painted it inside and out with white paint.  Then I found a couple of scraps of vintage linens with pretty floral designs for the top and for the bottom.  For the bottom, which is deeper than the top, I sewed the linen onto a piece of felted wool from an old blanket.  I liked the "cushion-y" look it gave to the linen. I was making a wall hanging, so I glued the tin "open", and covered the back with scrapbook paper that that had a small, doily design.  I added a phrase that was the "theme" of the tin. Pretty vintage needlework and trim, as well as a new tiny doily and a Martha Stewart doil...

Creating a wedding invitation keepsake, and hiking unexpectedly

Image
Dennis and I attended a beautiful wedding last weekend for one of my new co-workers.  Everything about the day was lovely and we were so glad to be included! The wedding colors were dark blue and white, and I was so inspired by the pretty invitation that I decided to create a frame for it for them as a keepsake. Here's how it turned out.  While the images of brides were scans of originals, almost all of the rest of the details including the beaded flowers, millinery and fabrics, were vintage (of course!)  Here are some of my favorite details/close-ups of the decoupaging: The back, and a little gift card I made to go with it.  I know that decoupaging with vintage paper isn't everyone's style, but I hoped she'd like it, and she did! This weekend was quieter; after Dennis was out of town for the whole week (and the whole week before, too), he came home Friday and took me to a local pop up vintage market.  It was small, but we had a l...

Thoughts on a Sizzling Summer Flying By

Image
Like a lot of the country, temperatures in my part of Colorado are soaring!  Is your summer flying by like mine is?  Don't you wish it wouldn't?  Look at this dandelion in my front yard -- those are full-sized daisies next to it!  I guess that gives me a lot of wishes!  I love this photo of Art, asleep on the landing with his paws holding one of the banister rails.  I wish I could sleep like that!  I picked some of our raspberries.  They are tiny but they taste great; I've been putting them in my smoothies.  This may be the only harvest I get from our bushes, as it is the bird party place in the neighborhood! I finally got some geraniums potted on the porch.  I love them so much and they're so easy!  I decided to hold off on "Christmas in July" -- for me, it will be "Christmas in September".  But -- get a load of this vintage, kitschmas creation I bought at an estate sale last week!  It has been SO po...
