Creative Friends, I Need Your Help!

Here's a little table I got for free at the end of a yard sale last year; the lady said, "Please just take it!" It's sitting in our basement right now.

I want to put it in my family room, to be the warm weather replacement for our electric fireplace, sitting next to the chair where I do my handwork in the evenings:

The room's decor is very casual; the walls are sponge-painted a pale, sage-ish green. Here's a view of the top; as you can see, it has deep grooves in the wood so it sort of looks like hardwood flooring:

Should I paint the table? What would you do?

I'd welcome any and all suggestions, as I'm out of ideas!

Decopauge and paint! Go wild!
Paint it COTTAGE WHITE! Absolutely, no two ways about it! It'll be gorgeous and fit in any room!!!

I like the idea of painting it all white 2 it would match everything, the only other thing I can think of is paint it one color and then paint the lines another. But definitely something much lighter so it looks brighter and makes the room cheerful:)

I like the cottage white idea. If you don't like the grooves, you could always fill them in with molding paste before painting.

It looks like it's got that old-school paneling on it! I would probably paint it some shade of antique white and chip it up a bit. My Grandma had a table very similar to this one! :o)

I'd paint the table in an off white color then age it with some distressing. Beat on it a couple of times with a change and/or the claw end of a hammer. Then add some stain wiping most of it off. I think that would look great in a casual room.

I'd definately paint it probably a creamy off white, about 3 coats. I might fill in the groves with wood filler, then sand.

But I'd probably paint an area first to see how I like it with the grooves. It's a great table, and also good for display at shows.

Love the curvy sides!

I'm in agreement, a faux painting technique sounds ideal for the feminine shape. I would multilayer paint it and sand the edges a bit for paint show-through. You could even layer on a decoupage motif to match your colors. woo hoo, what fun!
