Mysterious and spooky...

Image
Mysterious and spooky?  Not so much at my house.  I didn't used to decorate much for Halloween, but over the last few years I have collected some fun stuff.  I think you've seen it all before, but I did try to mix it up a bit this year. For example, I hung the Autumn banner over a coffee filter flower wreath, on a picket fence. The tags I made, and some that I got in a swap a few years ago, are resting in this pottery holder with three owls. My Puss in Boots black cat stands among some wire-y, texture-ful items like owls and pumpkins. Including these teeny tiny wire brush trees dyed in Halloween colors! Halloween in low color. I also got out the Halloween card "album" I made last year and I love it just as well as I did when I first made it! It's full of Halloween family memories from over the years; you can read about it and see more  here . This one always makes me giggle: Lady Wanted. What we want around here, now, is a job fo...

The front porch garden chair is out!

Image
After the wettest May on record, ever, in Colorado -- June is here and we are finally seeing some sunshine.  So this weekend I got out my garden chair for the front porch. I was thinking about how I have probably had this chair for about 10 years now -- since rescuing it from Goodwill as a chair and distressing it and adding an annual bloom. Do you remember this plaque I made from found scraps, spelling out our last name Jackson?  Well, this year it has become the centerpiece of the chair. I swiped some fresh white paint here and there over the already peeling paint from previous years. To me, geraniums say "summer"!  On June 1 my baby turned 18 and with the season comes even more changes -- including a new job for me that I'll be starting in a couple of weeks!

Yoo hoo!

Life feels as if it has speeded up lately -- I know you know what I mean. I have been so busy but also really wanting to get over here to my blog to say hello and catch up a little bit! Work is going well! While still underemployed, I am so happy there -- it is such a big improvement over my last job that I am walking on air.  You should have seen me doing the happy dance just the other day when I had my benefits orientation.  I was able to purchase BETTER health insurance for my family at less than HALF THE COST than what was offered at my last job, or by my husband's employer.  We are breathing a sigh of relief over here. There are so many things I like about my new job, and here's just one: in the evenings, after I've done all the training and other work in between phone calls during the first several hours of my shift, things will generally slow down a bit and we are allowed to bring in quiet work, or reading.  Some of the younger people who are in schoo...

Autumn around the house

Image
The trees are colorful and Fall is in the air. Cora and Ben on their way to Homecoming a few weeks ago; aren't they adorable? I put my Fall door hanging outside... and all the rest inside, too! Here's that mid-century two-tiered plate -- I filled it with two kinds of Fall potpourri, and a candle that is on its last legs.  I found this mustard yellow tray/basket at Tuesday Morning the other day.  I filled it with autumn colors, to include white (the little owl and some pumpkins!) In one corner of the living room.  How much do you love this vintage Puss n' Boots?  I bought him a couple of years ago in Kansas City. In another corner...  creepy Halloween dolls!  The smaller one is a matchbox I received in a Halloween swap made by/from JoAnne . and the taller one is one I made myself a while back.  I took photos in the early morning light; I like the shadows that showed up. I'm amassing quite a ...
