Spring time In My Shops

I'm a member of the Etsy Bloggers Street Team and each month we are to blog on a theme for a blog carnival.  This month, the question was,  Do you have any special items in your shop to celebrate the season?

Hi Laurie, love your little treasures. You are so industrious. I wish I could be as organised as you are. My little Etsy shop is sorely neglected.
Sorry to hear about your business card woes. I agree with you on the shortsightedness of businesses who should know better. My SO and I were just discussing the case of Blockbuster the other day. Just give me a call when you are ready to decorate. I'm thinking road trip to find goodies. Actually, I really don't need an excuse for a road trip. Thanks for stopping by, always nice to see a friend. I just wanted to say that I like all the goodies you are showing especially the embroidery hoop rescued linens. I have done the same thing, but I actually painted the wooden hoops. Yup, think bright red. I play too much with spray paint. What can I say.

Hello, world!  Welcome to my blog!   My name is Laurie, and I call my blog "Indulge Your Shelf" because I often post about the pretty things that catch my eye at antique stores, thrift shops, estate sales, street fairs, flea markets and the like -- and end up on my shelf at home, or in my Etsy shop by the same name !  My maternal grandmother had a great love for pretty old things, and it was she who taught me to rummage for treasures in thrift shops, to collect what I love, to sew, and to embroider.  And, that's another thing I write about often on my blog: creating! I love to sew and re-purpose vintage and antique linens into pillows and sachets, plus, I do a little bit of crazy quilting (and sane quilting, too); and, lately I'm big into paper crafting with ephemera.  In fact, I probably do paper art more than sewing these days.  I also do some regular, special event scrap booking.   I love paper -- the older the better!  I collect many small...

True Victorian style: black glass buttons

This past Sunday afternoon I went to my local button club meeting -- and it was fun, hands on, and informative.  The topic this month was black glass buttons . Many of the black glass buttons you see in antique stores were made pre-1918; as a result of Queen Victoria's mourning attire, black was very in vogue.  Although you might hear black glass buttons referred to as "jet", jet is a different kind of coal glass, and is much rarer.  I'm told you can tell the difference between black glass and jet in that jet will float in water. After we went over the different classifications for black glass through the National Button Society , we had a chance to dig through some little tubs of buttons (called "poke boxes" by buttoners) to see if we could find examples of all the types we'd covered.
