What is a trip to the thrift store if you don't return with a project?
I have long wanted to "alter" a globe (I even started a Pinterest board for globes!)  I have been on the hunt for one to try and the other day I found it! What I like best about it is the great old metal stand it's on.  But what sold me on it was that it's damaged (split) at the equator so I won't feel at all guilty about decoupaging over it!
Some other recent finds: these lovely Vera napkins...
and bark cloth!  Never pass up bark cloth.  Especially when it's cheap.
Each of these panels was just $1.50 and will wash up beautifully.
I'm on the lookout for interesting ways to display paper, tags, linens, etc. and this multi-hanger with its large clips struck me as just the thing.
A fun cover on a book of manuscript paper...
for journaling!  I don't see this often out there, do you?
I bought a pile of ca. 1960, NIP wedding shower napkins and can't wait to offer them in my shop for maids of honor who are planning parties with a retro theme!
A fun little jewelry roll from an estate sale had these novelty pins collected on it -- I especially love the two deer and the tiny key!  They will find their way into my fabric book pages for sure.

Well, that's enough fun for this morning; now, it's back to the grind.  We're doing taxes tomorrow night so I have to finish up the calculations (yawn!)  I'd rather be thrift shopping.

Great finds!!! We have something like 10 thrift stores in my little town and none of them have the finds you come up with.

Great finds. I have three of those hangers but have not really thought about using them for anything other than clothing. Now I am thinking of ways to use them.

I learned a Vera tidbit reading the best of Flea Market Style las night. The Vera items with the ladybugs on them are the ones she designed. If it does not have the ladybug, then it was designed by one of her employees. Also, the smaller Vera sigs are the older ones.

You must have a really great thrift store. Ours has gotten really high priced and nothing very spectacular. Happy Hearts are Creative Hearts...

Laurie you're right. That barkcloth will wash up real nice. Seems like great finds are better the second time around, eh?

Will be keeping track on what you do with the globe. I can see one of those in my future, lol.

Flagler College in St. Augustine: the Tiffany connection

We visited this wonderful building that began its life in 1888 as a lavish hotel built by Henry Flagler, one of the founders of Standard Oil, and now houses Flagler College . It is such a beautiful old building and in it we saw: these fabulous Tiffany chandeliers... on a spectacular painted and embossed ceiling in one of the hotel's drawing rooms.   I apologize for the quality of the indoor photos -- it was quite dark in the building. I had to laugh at these painted cherubs on the ceiling... and the way their ribbony robes encircle the chandelier mount! This large clock over the mantle is special because it's a Thomas Edison clock and because it is made from one piece of rare onyx.  We were told that Edison's "signature" on his clocks is the use of the incorrect Roman numeral "4". O Christmas tree, jeweled Christmas tree...

Earlier in the season Rebecca and I went to a craft fair at a local high school, and there was one booth with the CUTEST little jeweled, framed Christmas trees! The gal was nice enough to let me photograph them.  Sorry it's kind of blurry, but it was dark in that high school gym! I know it's an older kind of craft (from the '60s and '70s) but she made them sweet -- not gaudy at all.  We were both SO inspired. So, last week we made it happen.  I brought a bunch of my old, broken vintage jewelry, some velvet, glue,  old frames, and we sat in her dining room and made a forest of little trees! It was so simple: first, we took a vintage frame and covered the backing with velvet.  We just glued it on. Then, we took our time arranging bits and pieces of jewels into a Christmas tree shape.
