Counting down to Christmas

I have been wanting to make a Christmas countdown board forever and am so happy I finally got around to it -- just in the nick of time!
First, I went through my ephemera and looked for numbers.  All the ones I used, shown above, are vintage except for the round black ones; they are new from the scrap book store.  Then I scrounged around my craft supplies for vintage findings for each day.
That was as far as I got on the first day, but then this morning I was able to finish up.  It was such a joy to work with so many of my "junk drawer" pieces and Christmas kitsch!
I had to run out mid day to buy magnets to finish the job -- but here it is, in all its glory!
The "base" is a vintage TV tray which has been painted with chalkboard paint.
I think it makes a great background for all the little magnets!

that I had A LOT of fun with this project!
At the very end, I added a sparkly "Merry Christmas" next to number 25!

Very cute. i like the way you used the tray and the chalkboard paint. all those tiny little items to put on the calendar must have been a job to find them all. love it.

ADORABLE! I have a couple of the same items...now i want to make one too! I have been saving items to make advent pieces for my son, but I still don't have enough for each day! This is more do-able! Very cute!

I love it , so cute. I think I have most of those items however would take me till next Christmas to finish it LOL

Flagler College in St. Augustine: the Tiffany connection

We visited this wonderful building that began its life in 1888 as a lavish hotel built by Henry Flagler, one of the founders of Standard Oil, and now houses Flagler College . It is such a beautiful old building and in it we saw: these fabulous Tiffany chandeliers... on a spectacular painted and embossed ceiling in one of the hotel's drawing rooms.   I apologize for the quality of the indoor photos -- it was quite dark in the building. I had to laugh at these painted cherubs on the ceiling... and the way their ribbony robes encircle the chandelier mount! This large clock over the mantle is special because it's a Thomas Edison clock and because it is made from one piece of rare onyx.  We were told that Edison's "signature" on his clocks is the use of the incorrect Roman numeral "4". O Christmas tree, jeweled Christmas tree...

Earlier in the season Rebecca and I went to a craft fair at a local high school, and there was one booth with the CUTEST little jeweled, framed Christmas trees! The gal was nice enough to let me photograph them.  Sorry it's kind of blurry, but it was dark in that high school gym! I know it's an older kind of craft (from the '60s and '70s) but she made them sweet -- not gaudy at all.  We were both SO inspired. So, last week we made it happen.  I brought a bunch of my old, broken vintage jewelry, some velvet, glue,  old frames, and we sat in her dining room and made a forest of little trees! It was so simple: first, we took a vintage frame and covered the backing with velvet.  We just glued it on. Then, we took our time arranging bits and pieces of jewels into a Christmas tree shape.
