One World, One Heart 2011

Hello, world!  Welcome to my blog!

My name is Laurie, and I call my blog "Indulge Your Shelf" because I often post about the pretty things that catch my eye at antique stores, thrift shops, estate sales, street fairs, flea markets and the like -- and end up on my shelf at home, or in my Etsy shop by the same name!  My maternal grandmother had a great love for pretty old things, and it was she who taught me to rummage for treasures in thrift shops, to collect what I love, to sew, and to embroider.  And, that's another thing I write about often on my blog: creating!

I love to sew and re-purpose vintage and antique linens into pillows and sachets, plus, I do a little bit of crazy quilting (and sane quilting, too); and, lately I'm big into paper crafting with ephemera.  In fact, I probably do paper art more than sewing these days.  I also do some regular, special event scrap booking.

I love paper -- the older the better!  I collect many small antique items, but mainly I'm passionate about buttons, lace, fabric, and china.

I also like to write about my travels, what I'm reading, my fitness efforts, and anything else that's going on in my life -- or yours!  I love to link to my friend's blogs and what they're doing that's inspiring me.

When I'm not antiquing or crafting, I'm writing about antiquing in my column on examiner.com; someday, I hope to make writing my full-time career.  I do all this from my home in Colorado, USA, where I live with my husband, teenage son, and two dogs.

My son and I -- he's a Boy Scout

This is the third year I've participated in One World, One Heart, and I love the event because it celebrates the blogging community the world over, and promotes friendships!  I have met so many wonderful, artistic, friendly people through OWOH over the past two years!

It's my sincere wish that you enjoy your visit here, and that you bookmark my blog or become a new follower, and come back often!  I will do the same!  Last year, I  managed to return the visit to everyone who stopped by and commented on my OWOH post!
Me, at 23, in Paris
Enough about me: let's get to the giveaway!  In the past, my blog giveaways for OWOH have been gifts handmade by me, but this year I decided to offer items that everyone, even those who don't necessarily love handmade stuff, might enjoy.  So, since this is a worldwide event, I have decided on a theme of Paris -- one of my favorite cities in this world of ours -- for my gifts!

Have you ever been there? I've been there twice, and love the feeling of being in the City of Lights.  It's one of those cities that feels alive, like my own hometown of San Francisco, CA.  I would really love to return to Paris someday; until then, here's my little tribute to a beautiful city.

I'm giving away two gifts packages that are nearly identical, so when you comment on this post only you will have two chances to win this package:

It's all the stuff I love and would love to win myself, from some of my favorite lines, and also from my stash of antique and vintage ephemera!
First, from K & Company, two new packages of supplies; one is Rub-on Magic, sticky embellishments that you sprinkle glitter on to create sparkly embellishments, and, a package of colorful, inspirational words in 3D stickers.
Second, from Punch Studio, whose over-the-top designs I adore, this new package of paper hand towels with a Parisian theme, and...
from the same line, this beautiful set of three heavily embellished, 3D note cards -- the perfect way to welcome Spring!

Next, I'll be sending you a package of ephemera, hand picked from my own stash, with many French pieces to inspire you to create a journal, or tags, or collage, or to use in your mixed media or altered art!
The kit includes pages from old books, an antique postcard, music sheet, shorthand scribblings...
French text, a page from a 1858 ledger...
antique doily, antique greeting card, bits of vintage wallpaper, and other scraps.
I'm also including bits of antique Dresden foil, millinery, lace and trim, Dennison labels...
 antique and vintage buttons...
vintage seam binding in a few different colors, and two pieces of French-themed charms!
It's my hope that this whole collection of new and antique gifts -- all around the Parisian theme -- will be an inspiration to you, and will remind you of the rhyme and reason for the One World, One Heart event!

Remember: to enter, please leave a comment on this post only, between now and 11:59 PM MST (UTC-7) on February 16, 2011, and be sure that I can contact you either by having your email address enabled on your Blogger profile, or having an easy-to-find "email me" link on your blog; otherwise, you must include your email address in your comment so I can reach you!  Remember, according to the organizer of OWOH, this is a blogging event so you must be an active blogger to participate!  ALSO: if you are reading this on Facebook, you must visit my actual blog and comment to be entered!

On February 17, I will choose two winners via a Random Number Generator tool, and contact you via email if you are a winner!  You will need to email me your mailing address so I can send your prize to you.  If you are chosen to win the giveaway but don't respond with 48 hours of my notifying you on February 17,  then I will have to choose an alternate winner!

Thank you again for visiting!  I truly appreciate
each and every one of you!

Hey Laurie, It's so nice to meet you and to discover your blog. I'm from Kentucky. Paris is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I've been lucky enough to have visited Paris three times now. Though the last time was an accident. We were there to change planes but missed the connection, which worked out great. We had the whole day to walk around and absorb the atmosphere. I love your beautiful (and generous) giveaway. Please count me in. ~Michelle, OWOH participant 598

Hi Laurie. Let me apologise straight away for the length of this comment but I have to tell you that this prize is all I want :) All visitors to my Blog know that Paris is a recurring theme at my and vintage. I am fortunate enough to be the owner of items from Grandparents and Great aunts. In the early 1920s my Great Aunt visited Paris and I now treasure a feather fan and brochure from the Folies Berge. If I cannot use vintage I try to make it look vintage. Your prize is almost as though someone asked me, what are my favourite things. Sorry for chatting so much but your post "spoke to me". I am #798 if you would like to visit my Blog, Adorn. Warm Wishes
Lynne (yes, I have visited Paris :)

Of course I would be delighted if you would include me in your draw. A girl always needs more supplies to play with!
