Crafting at Tami's and shopping at Mission Road Antique Mall

One of the perks of going to Karla's Romantic Gothic Ghosts craft day was gaining access to her online class of the same name.  So, since crafting was definitely on the agenda for visit with Tami, we adapted one of the projects for the online class and worked on it our first full day in Kansas City last week.
Tami supplied all the goodies, including these ghoulish gal photos, and we created a banner from gothic arches!
Here is mine...in progress.
We were working in Tami's FABULOUS craft studio!
Which, she kept reminding us, she shares with her husband but there is plenty of space for both of them, for us to spread out, and for her shelves and shelves of WONDERFUL supplies!
Just a small portion -- feast your eyes!
Suzanne and I had serious craft room envy!
But it really inspired me, at least, to make room for crafting in my own disaster-of-a-craft-room!

In addition to finishing up the banner, we also made a cute hat to wear to Karla's event:

Not just spooky -- but funny, too!  Look at this ad:
It was so much fun crafting with Tami and Suzanne; at one point, we took a lunch break so we could go eat at Bloomsbury Bistro which just happens to be located at Mission Road Antique Mall.
 The bistro is famous for their toasted carrot cake -- and everything was to. die. for.
We had fun shopping in Beth's booth there!
 She always has great stuff, and great prices!

 Then, we fulfilled a wish of Suzanne's to visit the Victorian Trading Company Outlet!
They have lovely, vintage and antique reproduction stuff, including clothing.
 
I just bought some pretty stickers and a wax stamp ring with my initial on it.
After that, we even had time for a couple of thrift stores; above, some BINGO cards that Suzanne bought and shared from one of the charity shops, and a lovely German ephemera book that I bought at Beth's booth earlier. 
Then, it was back to Tami's house for dinner and a group photo of us in wearing the treats Suzanne brought: matching tiaras and ballerina socks! 
There was lots of gifting going around...I received a birthday gift from Suzanne, as well, and brought these for Tami:
a little bundle of fall-themed goodies...
 and a pink pillow that I made and embellished, specifically to hold...
a lovely, mother-of-pearl, World War II era pin with Tami's initial "H" on it.
We were just two days into our fun at this point -- more to come!

Makes me smile just to read your post and know how much fun you guys had. The crafting, the shopping, those darling presents- love the pillow- and your matching slippers- so glad you guys made it back to Kansas!

Laurie, I love my pink pillow & adore the WWII initial H pin on it!

BTW, the shelf in my Button Room where my pink pillow now rest, is sitting on top of the sweet hankie Rebecca gave me at Bird Song II.

We had an amazing visit together... can't wait till our gathering at Suzanne's.

I love that pillow! The pin is exactly like the pin my uncle purchased my grandmother in WW II at a commissary when he was in Japan. She wore it every Sunday. It had a "T" on it for the family last name. Just sweet memories - thank you.

Flagler College in St. Augustine: the Tiffany connection

We visited this wonderful building that began its life in 1888 as a lavish hotel built by Henry Flagler, one of the founders of Standard Oil, and now houses Flagler College . It is such a beautiful old building and in it we saw: these fabulous Tiffany chandeliers... on a spectacular painted and embossed ceiling in one of the hotel's drawing rooms.   I apologize for the quality of the indoor photos -- it was quite dark in the building. I had to laugh at these painted cherubs on the ceiling... and the way their ribbony robes encircle the chandelier mount! This large clock over the mantle is special because it's a Thomas Edison clock and because it is made from one piece of rare onyx.  We were told that Edison's "signature" on his clocks is the use of the incorrect Roman numeral "4". O Christmas tree, jeweled Christmas tree...

Earlier in the season Rebecca and I went to a craft fair at a local high school, and there was one booth with the CUTEST little jeweled, framed Christmas trees! The gal was nice enough to let me photograph them.  Sorry it's kind of blurry, but it was dark in that high school gym! I know it's an older kind of craft (from the '60s and '70s) but she made them sweet -- not gaudy at all.  We were both SO inspired. So, last week we made it happen.  I brought a bunch of my old, broken vintage jewelry, some velvet, glue,  old frames, and we sat in her dining room and made a forest of little trees! It was so simple: first, we took a vintage frame and covered the backing with velvet.  We just glued it on. Then, we took our time arranging bits and pieces of jewels into a Christmas tree shape.
