What I got at the Brass Armadillo

At the conclusion of her visit, Tami and I stopped on the way to the airport to shop at The Brass Armadillo, and we found some very fun stuff there!
We had about 3 hours to shop and giggle...
we both wanted this dress, in one of my favorite booths full of vintage clothes...
and pretty things like this purse with its huge Lucite clasp on top!
But it's the things I did get that I wanted to show you: 
first, this handmade display of old buttons, clasps, and sewing notions.
It had pieces falling off of it as soon as I picked it up...
so I won't feel bad if I take it apart and reuse some of the fun little bits in my art!

including this falling-apart button brooch that I just had to rescue!
But this is the find I really wanted to show you: the scrapbook of a gal who became a director of plays
It was FULL of fun stuff in this girl's life.
Really fun photos...
and a whole page of dance cards, as well as...
cards...
even a prop from one of the plays she was in!
birthday telegrams
memorabilia from her sorority rushing
including her dried bouquet from the night she was pledged!

There was even a bunch of loose stuff in the back of the scrapbook.

All in all: it was a really fun last stop on the way to the airport.  (Here's Tami packing her buys into her luggage!)

You scored some wonderful things! I love the scrapbook. I have a similar one from an OU coed from 1921-22. I bought it for all the ephemera, but so far can't bear to take anything from it! Let me know if you have better luck with yours.

That scrapbook is just amazing and, like so many other things, makes me wonder how the family could bare to part with it. I guess we should count ourselves luck that everyone doesn't think like we do, otherwise there wouldn't be all this great stuff out there for us to find and rescue! 8+)

Flagler College in St. Augustine: the Tiffany connection

We visited this wonderful building that began its life in 1888 as a lavish hotel built by Henry Flagler, one of the founders of Standard Oil, and now houses Flagler College . It is such a beautiful old building and in it we saw: these fabulous Tiffany chandeliers... on a spectacular painted and embossed ceiling in one of the hotel's drawing rooms.   I apologize for the quality of the indoor photos -- it was quite dark in the building. I had to laugh at these painted cherubs on the ceiling... and the way their ribbony robes encircle the chandelier mount! This large clock over the mantle is special because it's a Thomas Edison clock and because it is made from one piece of rare onyx.  We were told that Edison's "signature" on his clocks is the use of the incorrect Roman numeral "4". O Christmas tree, jeweled Christmas tree...

Earlier in the season Rebecca and I went to a craft fair at a local high school, and there was one booth with the CUTEST little jeweled, framed Christmas trees! The gal was nice enough to let me photograph them.  Sorry it's kind of blurry, but it was dark in that high school gym! I know it's an older kind of craft (from the '60s and '70s) but she made them sweet -- not gaudy at all.  We were both SO inspired. So, last week we made it happen.  I brought a bunch of my old, broken vintage jewelry, some velvet, glue,  old frames, and we sat in her dining room and made a forest of little trees! It was so simple: first, we took a vintage frame and covered the backing with velvet.  We just glued it on. Then, we took our time arranging bits and pieces of jewels into a Christmas tree shape. When we were happy with the arrangement, we committed and glued the jewels down!  I love this avocado green velvet! And then we did it again.  We had so much fun playing
