Fabric heart themed swap

A bunch of us got together to do a fabric heart swap just in time for Valentine's Day; I enjoyed boxes arriving with beautiful art for several wonderful days!
I gathered them together and boxed them up and got them out as quickly as I could -- and that part was joyful, too!  We had two groups with 7 stitchers in each group.
When one had to drop out, I picked up her spot so I ended up being in both swaps!  Here's the 3-inch fabric square I made for one of them.
Its base was muslin, with a layer of white burlap, vintage heart crochet "lace", and a piece of beautiful French ribbon I've been hoarding for years; over all of it was a layer of pink tulle.  And of course a button and some crinkled seam binding.
 This beautiful silk fabric/ribbon weave with a felt puffy heart is by Kristi.
It is so tactile -- I love it like crazy!

These lovely embroidered layers are by Barb...
 who told me she had spent some snowy days relaxing with these hearts and happy memories of stitching with her mother.
Beth's beautiful hearts each had a different phrase sewn on.
 I love her detail and the mixture of pinks and reds.
Suzanne's came pinned to a crocheted doily.
 How adorable is that bouquet in the corner?

Terri made this beautiful creation; each of hers had a different vintage embellishment,
and beautiful gold detail!
It's always such a joy to see how different artists will interpret the same theme!
I received some lovely, lovely gifts from the swappers, too:
 this woven purse from Kristi blew me away with its rosette and rows of fabric...
 ...and look at the quilted piece inside!

What treasures! I seriously need to work my way toward fabric in the future so I can create beautiful goodies such as these.

Until then, back to crocheting, papercrafting and soldering!

Flagler College in St. Augustine: the Tiffany connection

We visited this wonderful building that began its life in 1888 as a lavish hotel built by Henry Flagler, one of the founders of Standard Oil, and now houses Flagler College . It is such a beautiful old building and in it we saw: these fabulous Tiffany chandeliers... on a spectacular painted and embossed ceiling in one of the hotel's drawing rooms.   I apologize for the quality of the indoor photos -- it was quite dark in the building. I had to laugh at these painted cherubs on the ceiling... and the way their ribbony robes encircle the chandelier mount! This large clock over the mantle is special because it's a Thomas Edison clock and because it is made from one piece of rare onyx.  We were told that Edison's "signature" on his clocks is the use of the incorrect Roman numeral "4". O Christmas tree, jeweled Christmas tree...

Earlier in the season Rebecca and I went to a craft fair at a local high school, and there was one booth with the CUTEST little jeweled, framed Christmas trees! The gal was nice enough to let me photograph them.  Sorry it's kind of blurry, but it was dark in that high school gym! I know it's an older kind of craft (from the '60s and '70s) but she made them sweet -- not gaudy at all.  We were both SO inspired. So, last week we made it happen.  I brought a bunch of my old, broken vintage jewelry, some velvet, glue,  old frames, and we sat in her dining room and made a forest of little trees! It was so simple: first, we took a vintage frame and covered the backing with velvet.  We just glued it on. Then, we took our time arranging bits and pieces of jewels into a Christmas tree shape. When we were happy with the arrangement, we committed and glued the jewels down!  I love this avocado green velvet! And then we did it again.  We had so much fun playing
