Thrift shopping as therapy

Thrift shopping/hunting/picking has always been effective therapy for me -- how about you? The temporary job I'm working at now takes me close by two wonderful thrift stores in town; I try to only succumb to the urge once a week.  Here's what I've been finding:
 Beautiful bunches of paper flowers, tagged made in Japan
 Seasonal Vera scarves...
 Including this one that says, Greetings, which I never even knew existed!

 This crocheted and stitched vintage baby blanket, which melts my heart!
Ball quilted jelly jars from the 1970's!

 For Christmas crafting!

 I'm a sucker for scrappy pink glass!

 Someone hand crafted those feathers -- aren't they fun?
 This tiny guy is going to star in a future Valentine art piece!
I couldn't pass up the ampersands -- and the dollar sign will, I'm sure, come in handy!
 I almost left his flower arrangement behind -- but then decided to bring it home and salvage the beaded flowers.
 Once they were cleaned and sorted, I came away with so many more than I had expected!

And, feast your eyes on my most recent, favorite vintage fabric find!
A great deal of the above is already listed in my Etsy shop!
It's a joy to make these treasures available to the junk-loving public!
And then there was this estate sale I went to on my lunch hour...
 It could really be its own, separate post, but here you go anyway...

 Throw in some bling, and you know you've got my attention!

 Ah...even the re-living is therapeutic!
It's almost time for vintage Christmas!  I can hardly wait!

I hope this year will be much easier than the last one, for everyone I know.  I also want to say I'm sorry for not updating this blog since the end of October!  The end of the year was perhaps the worst of it; I'm not able to fake it very well, so instead of coming here and trying to be cheerful, I just don't come here! That's not to say we didn't have lovely holidays despite it all; we did! Here in Colorado January is off to a cold start; even though we get to see the sun on some of the chillier days, it's not possible to hang around outdoors. A frozen fountain I became ill shortly after the new year and continue to struggle with stuff (nothing real serious); I am looking forward to things being back to normal, so I can feel WELL and go back to the gym and have energy to spare! I don't think I posted about it here, but we did get a new kitten to keep Art company after he pined and paced over Paul Simon.  We thought we were getting a little boy...

Flagler College in St. Augustine: the Tiffany connection

We visited this wonderful building that began its life in 1888 as a lavish hotel built by Henry Flagler, one of the founders of Standard Oil, and now houses Flagler College . It is such a beautiful old building and in it we saw: these fabulous Tiffany chandeliers... on a spectacular painted and embossed ceiling in one of the hotel's drawing rooms.   I apologize for the quality of the indoor photos -- it was quite dark in the building. I had to laugh at these painted cherubs on the ceiling... and the way their ribbony robes encircle the chandelier mount! This large clock over the mantle is special because it's a Thomas Edison clock and because it is made from one piece of rare onyx.  We were told that Edison's "signature" on his clocks is the use of the incorrect Roman numeral "4".
