Trying something new

On Sunday, Rebecca showed me a watercolor method she'd learned at a class she took.  She's a watercolor expert while I'm a novice -- but I'm eager to learn!
First, we chose a picture to trace.  This is one I found in a vintage bird encyclopedia.  I liked the window background.
We traced the picture onto rice paper.  Then, we used wax to "block" off the parts of the picture we wanted to keep light, and added layers of color alternating with wax.  It was really complex and I don't think I really did it correctly, but...
I'm still really liking how it's turning out!
See how the rice paper adds a lot of texture?  After I took this photo, I removed the wax (using an iron) and added some gesso to lighten up a few sections.  Now I need to decide where to put it (on a canvas? on a board? inside a box? on a paper page?)
When I have finished it, I'll show you.
Cheers to trying something new!

Well - whether you did it right or not, I love it! I would keep doing it this way. You know how I love birds!
