Thrift store finds, again

I indulged in some thrift shopping this morning, and was very happy with what I came home with for just under $5:

This pretty runner, which I intend to take apart for its tatted middle

I don't know why I felt I needed this veil -- but I did.  It's new in the package.

Just in time for Oktoberfest -- these tiny paper party hats!  They originally had feathers attached, which I might replace since these came without.

This extra large pad of hangman pages -- I thought it would be the perfect thing for hanging out with my son next week.  We used to love to play that when he was little!

Even though these transfers are intended for punch needle, I think I can just as easily use them for regular embroidery.

Some handwritten letters, a prayer card, and an old postcard.

Did you notice this under my pile of ephemera?  I had to have it!  It desperately needs cleaning...

but it's PINK and I think it will be fun to craft with.

This party centerpiece is incomplete, but I still like it -- especially the purple night sky.
I'm having a hard time getting in the Halloween mood -- maybe this will help.

I also found seven of those Indian Tree dishes, which thrilled me because I love that pattern.  And I love buying dessert-sized plates, and mixing and matching.  Also -- do you see that little plastic basket?  It will go in a fun assemblage!

Then, on a recent visit to Taos I was in a great little craft shop called Creative Taos where I bought these fun old cigar labels:
I loved that store.  I could have stayed there all day!  They had new and used craft supplies, antiques, and even a bowl full of old Barbie dolls!
I also got this empty tin frame with a window to make a little ex voto, that I can't wait to decorate!  I couldn't resist the tiny tile cuts, either -- so New Mexico!  What should I put in my ex voto?
In Phoenix, I found a Brass Armadillo Antique Mall, and came home with this wooden wall hanging; I think it looks pretty against this mirror.  It's hand carved and made in the Black Forest of Germany.

You found lots of great things! Can't wait to see what you do with that corset. I have a longer one in the same pink fabric. The garters are stained so I've not tried to sell it, but I also haven't figured out anything to do with it.

A crafter can NEVER have enough corsets in great shape like this one (clean or not) plus handwritten cards and letters. I mean, really, if I had found a corset like that, I would have grabbed it, slapped down $20 at the cashier desk, and ran out of the store. I wouldn’t care if it was clean or the color. You got real lucky, lady. Congratulations!!!

O Christmas tree, jeweled Christmas tree...

Earlier in the season Rebecca and I went to a craft fair at a local high school, and there was one booth with the CUTEST little jeweled, framed Christmas trees! The gal was nice enough to let me photograph them.  Sorry it's kind of blurry, but it was dark in that high school gym! I know it's an older kind of craft (from the '60s and '70s) but she made them sweet -- not gaudy at all.  We were both SO inspired. So, last week we made it happen.  I brought a bunch of my old, broken vintage jewelry, some velvet, glue,  old frames, and we sat in her dining room and made a forest of little trees! It was so simple: first, we took a vintage frame and covered the backing with velvet.  We just glued it on. Then, we took our time arranging bits and pieces of jewels into a Christmas tree shape. When we were happy with the arrangement, we committed and glued the jewels down!  I love this avocado green velvet! And then we did it again.  We had so much fun playing

Flagler College in St. Augustine: the Tiffany connection

We visited this wonderful building that began its life in 1888 as a lavish hotel built by Henry Flagler, one of the founders of Standard Oil, and now houses Flagler College . It is such a beautiful old building and in it we saw: these fabulous Tiffany chandeliers... on a spectacular painted and embossed ceiling in one of the hotel's drawing rooms.   I apologize for the quality of the indoor photos -- it was quite dark in the building. I had to laugh at these painted cherubs on the ceiling... and the way their ribbony robes encircle the chandelier mount! This large clock over the mantle is special because it's a Thomas Edison clock and because it is made from one piece of rare onyx.  We were told that Edison's "signature" on his clocks is the use of the incorrect Roman numeral "4".
