March comes in like a lamb

Image
By all accounts, a mild March is in store for us here in Southern Colorado.  As long as the sun is shining, it's okay by me!  So many Americans have been tested by their weather conditions lately. My husband ordered me this pillow for Valentine's Day from an Etsy seller .  I just love it!  Other celebrations included a locally-produced play of Enchanted April, one of my favorite movies; it was wonderful, and while at the theater I bought the novel it was based on, and am loving it tremendously!  We had dinner before the show at a local restaurant called The Blue Star. It was fun and memorable.  Had we known that March would come and we'd still both be out of a permanent job, we would've been more frugal with our night out. I love to support the local arts and thoughtful cuisine, but it can be expensive! As part of an effort to remain always grateful, I created this happy memories jar last week.  It's basically just a Ball jar (antique, wi...

National Button Society Annual Convention in Denver, or, Button Bliss

Image
Did you see my post all about BUTTONS on my other blog,  Button Floozies ? I went to the showroom only of the National Button Society Annual Convention and spent a couple of hours enjoying all the button competition trays and the room full of beautiful buttons on display to buy! Today  on Button Floozies I posted photos of the just the ones I got from the button "poke pool"! And, here are some more that I haven't yet posted there:    a delicious metal button with shiny stones and beads - it looks like a dessert, doesn't it? Two buttons with mother of pearl insets -- one is celluloid, the other painted wood. Bird-themed metal buttons; here are some close-ups of those: Just in time for Halloween: an owl! But, mostly I bought more beautiful mother-of-pearl buttons to add to my collection.  The other day, Paul Simon knocked over my vintage cloth box full of mother of pearl buttons.  Even though I wasn't thrilled about it, it did ...

Happy mail and surprises at The Bins

Image
I think I  have mentioned that we have a new thrift store in town -- one of those weigh and buy stores, a Goodwill Outlet, aka The Bins. They are fun to shop at since everything is sold by weight; therefore it's a challenge finding things you'd like to buy that are also lightweight so you get the best deal. You know how much I love buttons, as well as bargains, so you can imagine how thrilled I was to come across these at the bottom of a bin!  More photos of those are on my other blog, Button Floozies . I bought the prettiest card/tag book from my friend Terri's shop .  It's going to be the perfect graduation card for my friend's daughter! I'm planning to put photos, quotes and maybe some gift cards in each of the little pockets or on the tags.  She will love it -- who wouldn't? Is there anything more fun than ordering from your friends?  I think not -- and I call it happy mail!  The box above and the pretty little linen next to it we...

The book closed with a tie and that was attached with a rhinestone pin -- how lovely is it?  A lovely pocket that held vintage button cards...  And this vintage millinery berry bundle!  Deb incorporated so many layers of fabrics and textures.  This is the back... ...
