January, you were over too soon...

If you're looking for my Grow Your Blog 2013 party post, you can find it HERE.  Today is the last day to enter for the giveaway!  Winner will be announced tomorrow.
Finally, at the end of January we have some January-like weather.  Here are Maggie and Snoopy romping in the snow in the early morning light, yesterday.
This is what the sky looked like a bit later...that's Pike's Peak as seen from my office/craft room's window.  It's one of the things I truly love about Colorado: even when it's icy, it's usually sunny.
Since the below-freezing weather kept me in, again, I spent some time getting more stuff listed in my shops; above, some St. Patrick's Day tag fun in Leaves and Lace;
and, in Indulge Your Shelf, I'm parting with some of my 1880's scrapbook pages.
The one above is part of a set of two pages I'm selling together; among other great pieces, they have these fabulous "Seven Wonders of the World" trade cards that I have seen go for more than $12 each on eBay.  My set has all 7, but some of them are damaged -- so, the price is lower.
Not to mention this amazing, large, embossed scrapbook front and back cover in one piece -- which will make the most amazing cover for your next journal or album project!
I am enjoying myself and feeling very productive, but I still want to do so much more!  There just aren't enough hours in the day...

900 posts, and more Valentine fun!

Wow -- yesterday's post was my 900th, and I recently surpassed 400 followers on this blog!  It's a good thing I'm already having a giveaway!  If you are here to visit from Grow Your Blog, you can find that post and enter the giveaway, HERE -- now through January 31!
Michele's hostessing a Vintage Candy Box swap, and I joined in the fun; I've sent my decorated box off to my partner and heard from her that she's received it but hasn't opened it yet!  In the meantime, I thought I'd show you another box I made: it's the hostess gift I sent to Michele!
Michele has two blogs: Something Special, which is mostly her vintage finds and creations, and Special Paper Projects, which is, not surprisingly, about her paper art!  She's one of the blogging friends I've known the longest, and I've enjoyed several of her swaps -and- been the recipient of one of her blog giveaways, too.  Lucky me!  She is so generous.
So, I wanted to take this opportunity to 'spoil' her a bit as a thank you ...
I decoupaged this cigar box with many different vintage papers, and then decorated it with a doily, some trims, and some fabric embellishments.
Then, I piled it full of some pretty, romantic-themed ephemera and doo dads to make her smile! (I'm not going to show you what was inside because it's similar to the box I sent my swap partner and I don't want to spoil the surprise -- but I will show you very soon!)

Spoolie swap fun

If you're looking for my Grow Your Blog 2013 party post, you can find it HERE.
A few days ago I showed you this lovely "spoolie" I received from Cissy in a swap sponsored by the Vintage Dragonfly Altered Matchbox Swap group I belong to.
It's a large wooden spool decorated in the Valentine theme.
Today I heard from Cissy that she'd received the one I sent her!
I had a ball making Cissy's!
My spoolie was inspired by one made by my friend Robin Weins for a swap last year; Robin's was red and glittery but for this one I went with soft pinks and white.

And, where Robin's was a bird on a nest, I perched my little bird on top of a grapevine heart.
I'm normally not a fan of 'mushroom birds' but I thought this one, which I found at Michael's, was especially cute with its little tail held high, and all the feathers!
Cissy had sent a gift packet of Valentine themed embellishments, so I included my own little version in her package!
Since it's me, it had to be all vintage ephemera!
Of course, I had to include some occasional stickers and red vintage BUTTONS!
It was a fun swap and so nice to make a new swapping friend!

Thrifty antique finds!

If you're looking for my Grow Your Blog 2013 party post, you can find it HERE.  Everyone is welcome to comment/enter now through January 31.
I haven't shown my thrifty finds in a while --and there's a reason for that!
It's because I haven't been going thrifting very much lately -- I'm in my beginning of the year, reorg and purge mode, instead.
But yesterday I met a friend at an estate sale, and we had fun finding a few treasures.
Like this still-crisp, all cotton, men's shirt with some wonderful details.  I just loved the teeny tiny smocking and the tiny buttons -- plus the Arrow label and this stamp which appears right on the front of the shirt!
Here's an example of something others would consider trash: an old, handmade cookbook.  Bernice used cardboard covered with contact paper to make a cheery, red-checked cover for it.
Then she typed recipes, using carbon paper to make multiple copies, and gave it to her family/friends.
What I like best: the pages which list family members' "favorite menus"!
Funny -- most of the actual recipes are for desserts.  I find that's usually the case with these little, handmade cookbooks.
What fun things have you found lately?

Getting in the pink

If you're looking for my Grow Your Blog 2013 party post, you can find it HERE.
Welcome to the new followers I've met during the blog hop!
I'm so glad you're here!
Isn't January flying by?
While working on my craft room reorganization, I uncovered some of my favorite Valentine decor
and I had to start putting it out!
This is a 3 inchie that Jeanelle made for me last year.
I love it like crazy, all over again.
I have already received my Valentine Spoolie from my swap partner who is a new friend to me, Cissy!
She also sent along some lovely little embellishments -- all in a hearts and flowers theme --
as well as a great little gift card with a spool on it!
I actually finished hers this afternoon, and will be putting it in the mail in the next day or two.
As soon as she receives it, I'll post photos!
I am loving Pinterest more than ever these days for inspiration.
For some reason, my Valentines board has become really popular.
If you pin, you're welcome to follow any of my boards;
I also don't mind if you pin stuff from my blog.

Grow Your Blog 2013 Party -- and a giveaway

Thanks, everyone for entering!  The giveaway has been given away!
Welcome all, especially those visiting for the first time today as a part of Grow Your Blog 2013, a blog party sponsored by Vicki at 2 Bags Full .
Be sure to visit her blog here for a list of all the sites you can visit beginning today who are participating in this party.  Many are having giveaways, as I am -- more on that at the end of this post, so please keep reading!
My name is Laurie and I've been blogging here for more than four years. My motto is, I've never met an antique or thrift shop I didn't like, so if you visit me you'll most likely see what I've been finding on junking outings and creating from vintage paper and fabric (and more!)
one of my altered boxes
I have a weakness for vintage and antique lace...
and linens.

a fabric book page/pocket I created
a valentine I stitched

a "3 inchie" I created
a shade I stitched from vintage fabrics
I also LOVE antique china...
especially transfer ware...
and McCoy pottery.
Antique paper ephemera is another passion of mine...

A journal page I created
one of my handmade tags
one of my journal covers
and, really, anything else that is old, funky and fabulous!
I have two Etsy shops that you can find by looking on the right sidebar -->
and keeping them stocked is a joy of my life.
I also blog about vintage markets, art retreats I attend, my crafty and creative friends, my family, my pets, and anything else I feel like gushing about.
I would love it if you would follow my blog and visit often!
I have another passion which I share on a second blog I write with more than 70 others; it's called Button Floozies and it's all about, you guessed it, buttons
-- especially antique buttons.  You're welcome to visit there anytime, too -- we'd love to have you!
I live with my husband, teen aged son, and two dogs in Colorado, but I'm a native of San Francisco, CA and have also spent time living in Germany. In real life, I'm a writer.
Most of what I've had published over the years is non-fiction, but eventually I'd love to be successful with my fiction.  I am an avid reader, fan of Jane Austen and contemporary literary fiction, and have more than one as-yet unpublished novel written...and waiting.
In the meantime, I write a column on examiner.com and have lately contributed/written for a few books, like this one.  My dream is to be able to make a living by writing so if you have any leads for me, I'd love to hear them!
So, I know you want to know about my giveaway!  I picked up this lovely new book for you, The Kitchen Linens Book, and I'll be sending it to you along with a wonderful example of a vintage kitchen cotton towel.
It is the sweetest, colorful book with loads of mouth-watering photos of lovely vintage linens!  Plus, tons of great information to help you identify them, and even some recipes!
Here's a sneak peek:

And, as I mentioned, I'm including a piece of vintage kitchen linen from my own extensive collection:
It's a lovely vintage example, depicting vegetables in a rather interesting color palette!
It's ca. 1955, in very good vintage condition.
For a chance to win the book and the vintage linen towel, please comment on this post only and tell me what you love about vintage linens.  If you have a blog, please make sure that your comment links back to it and/or that your email address is just one click away on your profile.  Otherwise -- leave me your email address in your comment to be eligible to win.
One comment per person, and all comments must be left by no later than midnight Mountain Time on the night of January 31, 2013.
I will choose a winner using Random Number Generator and announce it here on February 1, 2013!
At the same time I will email the winner who will then have 24 hours to get back to me; if I don't hear back with a mailing address for the winner by February 2, I will choose an alternate winner who will also have 24 hours to get back to me.  So: be sure to check your email on February 1!
I can't wait to meet all the new visitors during this blog party.
Again, welcome, and
Thank You for stopping by!
Visit the rest of the participating blogs via the list here!
