January, you were over too soon...

Image
If you're looking for my Grow Your Blog 2013 party post, you can find it  HERE .  Today is the last day to enter for the giveaway!    Winner will be announced tomorrow. Finally, at the end of January we have some January-like weather.  Here are Maggie and Snoopy romping in the snow in the early morning light, yesterday. This is what the sky looked like a bit later...that's Pike's Peak as seen from my office/craft room's window.  It's one of the things I truly love about Colorado: even when it's icy, it's usually sunny. Since the below-freezing weather kept me in, again, I spent some time getting more stuff listed in my shops; above, some St. Patrick's Day tag fun in Leaves and Lace ; and, in Indulge Your Shelf, I'm parting with some of my 1880's scrapbook pages . The one above is part of a set of two pages I'm selling together ; among other great pieces, they have these fabulous "Seven Wonders of the World" trade card

900 posts, and more Valentine fun!

Wow -- yesterday's post was my 900th , and I recently surpassed 400 followers on this blog!  It's a good thing I'm already having a giveaway!  If you are here to visit from Grow Your Blog , you can find that post and enter the giveaway, HERE -- now through January 31! Michele's hostessing a Vintage Candy Box swap , and I joined in the fun; I've sent my decorated box off to my partner and heard from her that she's received it but hasn't opened it yet!  In the meantime, I thought I'd show you another box I made: it's the hostess gift I sent to Michele! Michele has two blogs: Something Special , which is mostly her vintage finds and creations, and Special Paper Projects , which is, not surprisingly, about her paper art!  She's one of the blogging friends I've known the longest, and I've enjoyed several of her swaps -and- been the recipient of one of her blog giveaways, too.  Lucky me!  She is so generous. So, I wanted to take this

Spoolie swap fun

Image
If you're looking for my Grow Your Blog 2013 party post, you can find it  HERE . A few days ago I showed you this lovely "spoolie" I received from Cissy in a swap sponsored by the Vintage Dragonfly Altered Matchbox Swap group I belong to. It's a large wooden spool decorated in the Valentine theme. Today I heard from Cissy that she'd received the one I sent her! I had a ball making Cissy's! My spoolie was inspired by one made by my friend Robin Weins for a swap last year; Robin's was red and glittery but for this one I went with soft pinks and white. back view And, where Robin's was a bird on a nest, I perched my little bird on top of a grapevine heart. I'm normally not a fan of 'mushroom birds' but I thought this one, which I found at Michael's, was especially cute with its little tail held high, and all the feathers! Cissy had sent a gift packet of Valentine themed embellishments, so I included my own

Thrifty antique finds!

If you're looking for my Grow Your Blog 2013 party post, you can find it  HERE .  Everyone is welcome to comment/enter now through January 31. I haven't shown my thrifty finds in a while --and there's a reason for that! It's because I haven't been going thrifting very much lately -- I'm in my beginning of the year, reorg and purge mode, instead. But yesterday I met a friend at an estate sale, and we had fun finding a few treasures. Like this still-crisp, all cotton, men's shirt with some wonderful details.  I just loved the teeny tiny smocking and the tiny buttons -- plus the Arrow label and this stamp which appears right on the front of the shirt! Here's an example of something others would consider trash: an old, handmade cookbook.  Bernice used cardboard covered with contact paper to make a cheery, red-checked cover for it. Then she typed recipes, using carbon paper to make multiple copies, and gave it to her family/friends.

If you're looking for my Grow Your Blog 2013 party post, you can find it  HERE . Welcome to the new followers I've met during the blog hop ! I'm so glad you're here! Isn't January flying by? While working on my craft room reorganization, I uncovered some of my favorite Valentine decor and I had to start putting it out! This is a 3 inchie that Jeanelle made for me last year. I love it like crazy, all over again. I have already received my Valentine Spoolie from my swap partner who is a new friend to me, Cissy ! She also sent along some lovely little embellishments -- all in a hearts and flowers theme -- as well as a great little gift card with a spool on it! I actually finished hers this afternoon, and will be putting it in the mail in the next day or two. As soon as she receives it, I'll post photos! I am loving Pinterest more than ever these days for inspiration. For some reason, my Valentines board has become really popul
