The writing life

Whew! It's taken me all day, on and off, but I've finally gotten caught up with my blog reading.  I so enjoy catching up with you all.  Everyone's in the mood for Spring, it seems, and I'm finally beginning to see some signs of it here in Colorado.  My hyacinth, tulips and daffodils are still merely green sprouted leaves, but they are all sprouting at the same time which is odd.  We've had a l-o-n-g winter and a cold spring, but I'm about to take a leap of faith and change out the snow tires for regular ones!

I have been spending a lot of time lately trying to educate myself in the way to earn money consistently by writing online.  My examiner.com page pays very little, but some of the other Examiners support themselves with the money they earn on the site; they have offered tips, and I'm gleaning information from other places online, and trying to assemble it all into some kind of a plan.  I've also been applying for any writing job that comes up (few and far between) but haven't heard back from anyone.

Today my husband was home from work and I had just gotten my haircut and styled, so he took some photos and I chose the one above for my new profile picture on my examiner.com page.  They haven't posted it there yet but I hope they will soon!

I'm still trying to get the hang of writing for the site.  They specifically don't want the writing to be blog-like, but journalistic, instead.  I really want to strike a balance -- to inject my personality into the article while still meeting their journalistic standard.

And, hey, some good news about the writing I do there: I've been in the top 5 among local Examiners for several days in the last week or so, and have made it all the way to number 2 one day this week!  The ranking reflects the quantity and quality of hits my page receives on the site.  Please visit if you're interested in antique and thrift shopping and have a moment.  Every little click helps!
